TECHNET SESSION @ Hotel Capital,Bangalore – By Microsoft
First session :

 IIS 6.0 performance Tuning
– bit same old stuff( i already heard lot about IIS 6.0 features in previous microsoft seminar happened @ Leela palace)

 But still , here is the few notable features of IIS 6.0
 1. We can create any instance of IIS 6.0 – called worker process
 2. Any individual aspnet_wp.exe (is called worker process) can be suspended easily wihout affecting remaining application
 3. More than one worker process can be grouped as pooling
 4. webgarden – no of processes ( yet to confirmed )
 5. Inetinfo.exe – system level
 6. all the worker process runs as network service
 7. We can scale out our web application upto 32 nodes, if we want to scale out to more than 32 nodes we have to use – DNS Round robin
 8. Tools to monitor the IIS Performance – Netmon, Perfmon, logman, tracerpt

As Intel was the official sponsor for this event, so they showcased few latest processor from their lab. As i blogged about 64 bit Operating system, here intel also developed Processor which supports 64 bprocessor OS.

Expand folders using * keystroke….

Expand and Contract Folders With Ease (All Windows)

It can be a time-consuming process to expand a folder by clicking on the (+) for each and every sub-directory. This tip lets you expand and contract them all at once, with one keystroke. While in any application that is based on the explorer interface (e.g. Windows Explorer) simple highlight the parent folder you wish to expand and press ‘*’ (asterix on the keypad) and all the sub folders will expand out, press ‘-‘ (minus on the keypad) and they’ll all contract back again.

Shortcut key to Launch Task manager:

Normally when we press ALT+CNTRL+DEL  will give TASK Manager. Same thing can be get using the following key strokes..
Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC and the Task Manager will be launched instantly.

Tips for Speed in Menu & Internet in Win XP

Increase menu speed in XP

How to increase the Menu speed in Windows [ applicable to all version ]

   when you move your mouse on the start menu of windows or any other application program will notice the time delay in loading the submenus or menu items.

Here is the tips to get increase the menu speed.

Step 1 :
Start>run>type as regedit
step 2 :
 HKEY_current_user > control panel > desktop > in the rightpane [ menushowdelay=400 change it into 0 ]

You should notice an increased speed in the menu items. Just move your mouse over the start button, you will noitce all the submenu items will get loaded very fastly…….
 [ restart required ]

Boost your internet speed in XP

One of the possible reason for slow connection speed in XP may be of this QoS (Quality of Service) Installed.

In order to remove this reserved quota you should logged on as administrator.

Steps 1:
Go to Start > run > and type ‘gpedit.msc’ 

Expand ‘local computer policy’ branch > Computer Configuration > administrative templates’ branch > then ‘network’ branch.
Then expand the network branch > then highlight the ‘QoS Packet Schedular’.

In the right window, double click the ‘limit reservable bandwidth’ settings. Then on the setting tab, check ‘enabled’ the limit reser.bandwidth and change the ‘Bandwidth limit %’ to read 0. You should notice an immediate boost in your internet connection speed 🙂

Scheduled shutdown in XP….cool

::::::: Scheduled Shutdown in WinXP :::::::

In dos prompt type this line,shutdown for help.Yes really worthfull command from MS 

Example :

C:\Docmen~\Mahe>shutdown.exe -s -f -t 60 -c "Windows is shutting down shortly in 60 seconds" press enter, you will get a small dialog box appears on screen alearting for shutdown with above said text messages.

Here is the actual parameter definition,

shutdown.exe -s -f -t 60 -c "Text"
-s(for shutdown) -f (force shutdown) -t xx(time xx(seconds)) -c (comments)

For more details, type shutdown for help
Note : This is quite useful when you are leaving your system for sometime. For an example if you are playing some songs in winamp. so you can schedule shutdown with seconds as parameter.

Ex1 : for 1 hour
 C:\Docmen~\Mahe>shutdown.exe -s -f -t 3600 -c "Windows will get shutdown in 1 hour-Mahe"

I tried this in my PC working smoothly…..movin 2 lunch

Few Peformance Queries – Sql 2000

5 Performance Queries – SQL SERVER 2000

1. Use "TRUNCATE TABLE  <tname>” instead of “ DELETE from <tname>”
If you want to delete all rows in a table use q2 for better performance –

q1 :delete from <tname>
q2 :truncate table <tname>

TRUNCATE TABLE – frees up space of tables data,indexes etc without log row deletes.

2. Never use [sp_ ] as prefix for stored proc’s – its reserved prefix. SQL server searches for a stored proc with [sp_ ] prefix in the system procedures first,and after that looks for them in client procs. 

3. There are thousands of examples for count(*),but q2 is faster to achieve the same count operation. here is my query tested in my PC…

    q1:select count(*) from pcl
    q2:select rows from sysindexes where id= OBJECT_ID(‘pcl’) and indid <2

4. Add "SET NOCOUNT ON ” statement in stored proc to reduce network traffic.
Tested this queries in my QA…it will be helpful,who are all talking with SQL daily in poor bandwidh. I just added this queries in my Query files already saved.

5. BETWEEN instead IN,
 Example Q1:
  SELECT clt_id
   FROM pcl
    WHERE clt_id BETWEEN 1 AND 10

 Example Q2:

  SELECT clt_id
   FROM pcl
    WHERE clt_id IN (1, 2, 3, 4,5,6,7,8,9,10) 

 Q1 is a best query when you think performance wise

i got big fish on net for ASP.NET 2.0, yes this site holds tons for hungry minds with parallel live . As a webdeveloper i used to surf for each and every thing. but now i controlled myself with MSDN subscription copy installed in my drive. But still i used to search some new features of ASP.NET 2.0 Whidbey in google and finally i will be landed in business site with advertisement.
